Question:
My 1997 Explorer had to have the Rear End rebuilt at 95000 miles. My 2003 Explorer had the same problem at 37000 miles. My good friend also had the same problem on his 2003 Explorer at about 25000 miles. I did buy the extended warrantee, but I'm not sure that I would purchase another Explorer. Explorers also seem to have a lot of wind noise inside the truck.

Yes, There are alot of problems with them, I think its from using lesser Quality parts but thats only my opinion.. Rear End troubles seems to top the list, following by transmissions.All ya need to do is google Ford Explorer Problems/Recalls and a ton of results pop up lol.

There have been a few recalls So check the Ford Website and other sources,If you have receipts for repairs maybe you can get some kind of reimbursement.

been driving explorers since 19941994 2dr 5speed 203000 original everything the day I sold it the battery died on the new owner. 7 years old
bought a 2000 4x4 2dr loaded 157000 miles and counting normal maint. no problems
Change plugs at 40000 intervals, oil and filter every 5000 tranny fluid and filter every 50000 diff lubes and transfercase at 50000 and no problems

always stop before you shift from rev. to drive
if you drive thrw deep water they recommend you change the difff lube
They only problems we have is the clutches in the limited slip differentials cattering,binding when turning slow ..Not saying we don,t do rear differential gears but not only explorers.The8.8 rear differential is the same in f series, crown vic, mustangs.Not really a big common thing. Ah yes Explorers have had issues with axle seals leaking differential running low on fluid and doing damage
