how can you tell if the fuse went bad or if there is a short in it?
my car would shut down on me from time to time whenever the gas guage is on its 1/4 mark
would the problem be with the gas guage or would it be that the engine isn't getting enough gas at times?

How do you know if your brake pads need changed with out taking it to a some place that will charge you?
if you have driven the car below 1/4 then it probably is not the guage. it could be either contaminated fuel as in water or the fuel pump may be going bad. to see if its water contamination get a regular size bottle of isopropyl alchohal otherwise known as rubbing alchohal and add it to your tank, it will mix with the water and allow it to burn through the engine. if that doesn't help see a competent auto tech when your tank is at 1/4.
