Fuel gauge not working right on peugeot help is it easy to fix?

Question:
my fuel gauge is giving me false readings and i never know how much is in the tank. Is there a way of fixing it easily without too much expense. It works fine when i fill the tank up but as it goes down it hovers from half way to quarter all of the time. Have you any ideas.

If you earth out the wire from the tank unit and the gauge shows full, normally the fault lies in the tank unit or quite commonly a badly earthed tank or sender unit, test this by using a wire with two clips to a good earth, it has been suggested where the most common fault lies , also follow advice re changing unit if necessary.

It's usually caused by the sender unit in the tank. Get one from the auto wreckers and either fit it yourself or get someone to fit it for you.
They're usually accessed from a small hatch in the trunk. You remove the electrical cable, undo the 6 or so screws holding it in, remove and replace.
