We believe the fuel pump is going out on her 1996 Nissan Sentra. I looked up the price for the pump at Auto Zone, it's $134. If she takes it to a mechanic, how much can she expect to pay total, parts and labor? Thanks!

i own a shop and they,ll probably charge her around 300 for everything on it,the labor is the killer on this one you have to drop the tank on it to get to it,and it takes a while to do this,and its also very dangerous ,but id at least expect to pay around 300 for everything,if they do it for less that would be nice also,good luck with it.Where is general motors located?

Well depending on where you live , this could be a lot
the pump is inside the gas tank and you have to drop the tank to get at it.
Many shops charge by how much gas is in the tank.

I can't give specifics, but you'd be lucky to pay around $200. Most mechanics will not install customer supplied products for guarantee purposes. They will buy the parts themselves, mark them up, then charge the labor on top of that. I would say that if that's the going price for an aftermarket pump, $200 would be a very reasonable price, more if you take it to the dealer.
