I believe this to be 2 problems.
Fuel pump relay chatters on/off when running, this is audible from 5 ft away. Removed relay inside is a pc board with 2 coils, 4 chips, and 18 resistors/ diods. I do not believe this on/off thing it acceptable and is contribution to the trouble. However this is a mercedes and they like to do interesting things, especially given the level of complexity of the relay.
How do you adjust the headlights on a 1998 gmc yukon?
2nd . ignition control modual. It is moved/ tapped while the engine is running the engine dies. Car came to me with a condition that the engine idles at 2500 rpm in neutal and does not drop.. adjust timing, clean the IAC moter, the car idles now at 1000 (still too high) but base timing moves around too much for my liking.
What turns the FP relay? Is there a referance signal from the ignition module that is screwing with the relay? I say replace both, but... is it possible that the FP relay is supposed to do that?

Sell it. You would be wasting your money in trying to repair it.
find and check the overvoltage protection relay
