Is it possible to tighten down a heat shield or do you have to replace?

Question:
I have noticed a slight rattle underneath my car which I believe is the heat shield on the cat coverter. It only happens during cold starts and rattles for maybe 2 minutes if that. My question is can I tighten this part down or do I just need to go ahead and replace it if i want the problem solved? Thanks for all advise

Should i fix the head gasket or get a used engine!?

The Car is : 1999 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with the 4.3L Vortec

98 Jimmy battery or alternator problem?

The shield is welded to the cat. If you reweld it, it will just break loose again. GM's fix is to put two large hose clamps around it to hold it tight. They'll last longer than those little tack welds.

They pumped my tires to twice the recommended PSI?

depends on how the heat sheild is held in place. if it bolts on - sure... unless, of course, the bolt holes are stripped out. then you have to replace...

Electronic Stability Control??

Depends if the heat shield is secured by bolts or not. Most heat shields on cat converters are part of them. Get underneath and check it out to see if it has bolts. If it doesn't then an exhaust shop would be a good place to take it. Sometimes just a small tack weld can secure something minor. I'd wait until the engine is cooled off before you start climbing under it. Peace.
