Question:
My Legacy is making a squealing noise from the engine. I'm thinking its the serp. belt but cant be sure. The squealing is pretty bad. Does it sound like a belt to you? Is this a fix I could do myself? If not what will it cost to get fixed? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a belt. The part's not too expensive, labor shouldn't be too much either.Good Luck!

If the squeeling changes with rpm and might go away as the engine warms, its usually a bad belt.Where do I start if I want to service and maintain my car?
Most cars are going to using a belt for timing the valves to the crankshaft. If that slips the engine won't run. (could have a valve punch holes in a piston and other bad things too)

If the belt you think is slipping has teeth on it... take it to a shop ASAP. a 12 yr old timing belt needs changing whether its slipping or not.
Ignition timinig and aldl connector?
If it is squealing, it is a belt. Finding out which one is the problem. Check how tight each belt is. If one is loose or worn then you need to change this. To find which one start your car, open the hood and turn your throttle body a couple of rpms and look for where the squealing is. Fixing this is a simple task, costing depends on the make and model of car.Replacing positive side battery terminal?
Take a can of WD-40 and spray a little on both sides of the belt. If the noise stops, you found the problem. The WD will wear off and not cause any slipping just in case you were wondering.....I was just thinking,...you might want to take the belt off and check to make sure all of the pulleys spin freely. A '95 car could have alternator or waterpump bearings getting ready to give up. Don't try to spin the bottom pulley though, it is the crank shaft and wont spin by hand. Try the WD first but keep this in mind.could b a belt... chec kal lfluids and belt could also b the fan
