2001 dodge 1/2 ton pu, check engine light?

Question:
This is a friends truck, small V-8 ,auto. The check engine light is on and they want to know how to reset it, if it is possable. Tried dissconnecting the battery- no luck, HELP, they can't pass inspection with the light on.

Do I need a new radiator?

Go to your local autozone and have the codes read, they will tell you what needs to be replaced, most of the time it is a sensor..... and disconnecting the battery does nothing..... a code is stored as a hard fault in the computer..... the ONLY way to get rid of the code it to erase it with an OBDII code reader..... not stomping the gas pedal 10 times or turning the switch on and off many times.... use common sense here..... its a computer...... you can buy an OBD code reader from wallmart for $60, I bought it and have fixed many problems.

That is not always the case,Most auto part stores have a hand held computer that plugs in under your dash that will tell you why it's on,it may be a censer.

your not giving much info to go on like milage etc. but being a 2001 it is probable an o2 sensor,either #1 or #2,have your local parts house,autozone etc hook up there tester and it will tell u or u can by a code tester at wal-mart for less than 100...resetting it will not work until the problem is fixed, it will only come back on. the tester at wal-mart is a good one for the money,comes with a code book and can resetb the check engine light
