How much should I expect to pay to have a new engine installed in my 1997 Mercury Sable?

Unreliable fuel gauge... can it be fixed?

I replaced my head gaskets in my Mercury Sable and it cost me about 600 compared to the 3000 plus for a new engine. Cheaper to replace the heads...I have a 95 Sable Wagon...great car...but the heads go easily...also if they are blown DO NOT DRIVE IT...I made that mistake and needed new heads.
