Why does my mini-van suddenly turn off when I slow down?

Question:
I have a 1994 Nissan Quest minivan, and it just shuts down occasionally when I brake. It may happen from 2-5 times a day, but many days it's just fine.
Any idea what could be the problem?

Hmm, electrical problems with vehicles can be tricky and not easy to identify. I would have to hear more symptoms (and check out some things) to be better at guessing but I would say that it sounds like your alternator.

I doubt that your call stalling has anything to do with the brakes (brakes are a seperate system from everything) but I would think it would have to do more with slowing down or your engine slowing down. That could be your alternator.

are there any warning lights coming on? It might be you alternator dying. When you stop it has to work harder to keep the car charged. Also your car is gettin up there in age so it could be a wide range of things.

This problem cost me so much money in a Celebrity I had years ago. I would push on the brake and the electrical system would try to shut down or it would shut off all together. Pulled out the dash replaced computer and it did not help. Turned out that it was a relay switch. I had 3 or 4 on my car. Sorry but this was 15 years ago so can't remember the number for sure. Years later had a truck that did the same thing and sure enough it was a relay switch. Find out where all of the relays are on your vehicle. The one in question was at the front of my vehicle and had become damage possibly because this vehicle had been driven through high waters. My car even shut down if I hit a speed bump. Hope this helps. Relays are cheaper then pulling out dashes and replacing computers.
