I have a bad exhaust valve and it causes a misfire. Is this a serious problem?

Question:
The mechanic told me that the cost of repairing a bad exhaust valve could run over $1000 because of the cost of labor. Time consuming because they have to take apart so much stuff to get to the problem.

06 mustang GT.The electronic throttle control waring light up when i try to go faster on second shift.??

Keep in mind that not only do they charge this much for disassembly, the shop likely just takes the head off and ships it to a machinist, collecting profit off of that labor as well. Not very fair, but there isn't much you can do unless you pull the head yourself.

Should i get my car throttle cleaned?

As far as the condition of the car, if it is a constant misfire then it could very well damage your catalytic converter. The cat is designed to only accept a set amount of hydrocarbons, maximum. If your car gets to that point, however, you'll know right away when your check engine light flashes at you. A flashing SES light indicates a condition that will damage the cat.

Problem with VW Jetta?

Unfortunately, $800 to $1000 is about right...don't let them con you into only one valve, do a whole head job though...it keeps everything running smoother.

My 93 cutlass starts and runs but sounds real bad theres like somethin movin inside ?

The cost and time of r&r of a cylinder head and getting a valve job done will vary with vehicles and engines.A V12 Jaguar will certainly cost more than say a 4cyl.2.2 Plymouth.Your mechanics's quote probably is competitive with other shops in the area, but it won't hurt to shop. And yes it is serious, and it will not get any better, only worse. That cylinder will not fire at all VERY soon.

1991 chevy 1500 motor swap ?

yes, this is a serious problem. $1000 sounds about right.

Vauxhall corsa?

He wouldn't just repair one vbad valve. He'd redo all the valves, and that's about the right price. You've spent 90% the cost of a valve job just to get at that one valve, so it would be kinda dumb not to go ahead and do the whole thing.
