You've opened up a question that can be applied to a great many things beyond just automobiles -- "duty cycle" vs. "mean time (or miles or ...)" between failures.

Why did my tranmission disengage when I went fast going in reverse?

Some devices are indeed affected by duty cycle -- that is, the average percentage of time that a device is in use. Many things can be negatively affected by heavy or continuous use, while other things seem to work better in that mode. For many years, disk drives often ran longer if just left to run non-stop instead of being powered down. Old liquid toner copiers used to prefer to be run hard -- you'd get more copies between failures that way.

Any harm done to engine, etc?

In the case of autos, I can think of no important components that wouldn't be just as happy (or even happier) running continuously as compared to being shut down and started up periodically. In fact, starting a cold engine wears it a bit -- enough to compare to quite a few miles of actual driving.

Cleaning Products, and Wax Products.?

What's going to hurt you most over the long run will be the constant stop/start in traffic. An hour to go 30 miles indicates you've got some stop/start in there somewhere. Brakes and transmission/clutch will take the most abuse as a result, but a surprising number of other components (even your shocks) are getting extra exercise in city traffic as well.

Is there a website to get average prices for auto repairs?

Of course, the total number of miles will get you eventually, but that's a function of your distance to work over years, not the number of miles you travel each day.

What can be wrong with my transmission on my Mitsubishi Galant, 1989.?

I wouldn't worry about miles per day except as it finally adds up to a lot of miles.

What shocks can i get for a 94 olds mobile bravada that can add a few inches of lift?

No it means that it will have more miles in 10 years than normal and be worth a lot less. I know people that have 300,000 miles on a 5 year old car and still runs like new. Highway miles are always better than city miles. Otherwise it really doesn't matter as long as you keep a rigorous maintenance schedule.

My sons 1992 corsica ,, after running it for about 1 hour it has started to skip and stall, during the first

That seems normal. But it also depends on the condition of the engine and how you drive it. For example, if you ride the brakes or the clutch, if you slam on the brakes, etc.

Does the intake manifold need to be removed to change the knock sensor?

as long as fluids are clean and topped up, and no abuse is taking place, there is no limit to how many miles you can drive in a day for any kind of vehicle. you can drive from arizona to massachusetts and back straight through, and it wouldn't hurt the car any more than doing the same trip but only driving 50 miles a day
