My girlfriend has a 2000 GMC Jimmy that just lost the transmission. She can not afford the $2000 repair bill, and still owes almost $9000 on the car loan. With close to 100,000 miles, the car itself is probably not even worth the $9,000 she owes on it. Anyone have any advice on how to handle this problem?

Fix it seems to be the only option in a bad situation other than selling it and taking a beating on the loan and STILL having to buy something.
Pay off the loan get a bus pass. dont go in more debt
shop around for rebuild,, i just paid 1300 for a 1999 S10 4x4.. she has to pay the loan and the tranny... next time put a down payment or take shorter loan 3 or 4 years.welcome to the real world. good luk

unfortunately sometimes we have problems that suck. I think you might want to check scrap yards for a good used transmission it may be a cheaper way to go. Scrap yards sometimes will even put the transmission in for a better price than a garage if they are selling it to you.Why should I change my transmission fluid?

but she could stop making the payments and get it repoed and then have bad credit and be in debt, she could get the car fixed, or she could use the 2,000 and go buy a car for that much (u can find good cars for that price just fo look around), but still make the payments on the other one!!

seriously when it comes to buying cars u have to fight to get something good. especiallly when it comes to payments! when looking for cars look up the book value. go to kbb.com. my mom went to get a new car and the dealership was trying to get her in 03's and 04's and my mom had to fight tooth and nail to get what she wanted. he walked out with an 07 cobalt, what gets me is that her payments are only 50 dollars more than what they were initially tryin to give her. dealerships try and give u what they think is best for u, but only u know what is good for u!
