Reasons for seloniod switch going out...98 Pontiac Grand Am goes out in a weeks time.?

Question:
My car keeps going through selinoid switches. My husband doesn't think it's the battery or starter (he has experience working on cars). He replaced it once and a week later it went out again. He exchanged that one and it did the same thing and went out a week later. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Car question?

get a volt meter and run the car. could be that the alternator's voltage regulator/control is going bad and giving out high spikes which is damaging the solenoid. You should see about 14v when the alternator is on. Also, check to make sure it has a clean ground.

Automatic Transmision.?

battery may be to low and putting to much on it. Starter may be dragging.

Exhaust system?

Starter is "tired" and drawing more amperage than the solenoid is designed to handle.

Is it ok to use my emergency brake for awhile to help the car to slow down? Will get my foot brakes next week

Have it load tested for amp draw.

My1995 acura vigor burn 3 ecu computer?

Instead of pulling the starter and just replacing the solenoid every week, he might want to replace the starter and solenoid once...it sounds like the starter motor has some bad windings in there, drawing way too many amps. That will burn out the contacts fast.

Is it possible and recommended for me to change brake pads in my car?

Bad ground wire between the engine and the chassis. It causes the voltage to the solenoid coil to be too low and it chatters while you're cranking the engine, burning up the contacts. I bet you have other electrical problems too.
