How to replace the driver side Daylight Running Light of a 2000 VW Golf.?

The problem is, there is no space to get to the light bulb. I tried to remove the whole headlight assembly but I couldn't get to the bottom screw. There's got to be a easier way. Right now, my only choice is to remove the battery first. This is turning into a much bigger job. Please help. You will get 10 points if your answer works.

If I remember correctly they come out the back, so you have to remove the battery. Lack of room to gain access is a normal mechanics problem.
