My pug 205 diesel engine takes very long to start and at first start it throws out a lot of smoke.wats prob?

my peugeot 205 diesel engine take a very long self and it agitates too much before starting if it gets started it throws a lot of smoke.but while running on road there is limited smoke.normally it will start with a push.when the engine remains off for more then 6 hours it needs a push start.what could be the problem? weak engine or its a battery fault

If you think about it you probably answered your own question.The heat generated by compression is what makes a diesel fire.Not as much smoke when it's run a while??The engine has built up heat at this point.Either your engine has low compression or you have bad injectors leaking down.(allowing fuel to run into and sit in the cylinder).Excess fuel in the cylinders will cause a prolonged crank and hard start.

check and replace the glow plugs,check the compression,change fuel filter or run injector cleaner thru it and replace battery if its not cranking it over fast enough
