Question:
Do Twin Throttle Carburettors deliver poor mileage compared to SU type Piston Carburettors? What're the performance differences of the two?

What oil weight do I need for my 351 cleveland motor?
Twin-throat carbs like Delorto's, Webers and Mikuni's are intended for racing applications. They delivery considerably more power (when properly tuned) at the expense of economy - much as I hate to say the SU is better than anything. For years the SU carb was my nemesis. Foul little devices those things. How do you get the smell of vomit out of a car?
as far as i recall, yes twin throttle carbs are less efficient, but they are able to deliver more fuel to the cylinders which means more power.I have a few questions for a mechanic?
The answer is, it depends on your specific plan. If you were to go from a single SU to a two barrel, you'd probably see a decrease in fuel economy. This would be due to less precise fuel metering at idle and partial throttle conditions. But you may see better performance, due to better airflow at higher RPM's. Clever tuning could get similar economy out of either setup. And if your SU's are sloppy, anything could be an improvement. The trick to getting better mileage is precise fuel metering, since you need to maintain a mixture that's just on the edge of being too lean under steady throttle conditions. For that reason, an electronic fuel injection setup with closed-loop feedback will give you better economy than any carburetor. This could be done for about what a Weber conversion would cost, if you use carbs as throttle bodies, as this fellow did with Strombergs:

You could probably buy the conversion adapters from him, and install them in cheap Strombergs from the breakers yard. These would bolt up in place of your SU's. Use something like a Megasquirt or SDS for your EFI controller.

Why am i losing power in my mondeo?
With a programmable fuel injection system, you could change from top economy to top performance by reprogramming the ECU. This would give you the best of both worlds.
