Question:
on a 97 Prelude, if there is white smoke, it could be burning coolant and thus a possible head gasket, but how would I check to see if there is any water in the oil? Would it ALWAYS be a milky oil consistency or could it still be normal oil? Thanks.
Answers:
if the oil on your dipstick is a gray milky substance, chances are you have water in the oil
Thats the first I have ever heard coolant and white smoke.
Is it steam or smoke ? Head gasket can be check a number of ways water in oil,air in the radiator, compression test,
Start the car with the radiator cap off let it get to normal running temp(thermostat open) look for tell tail bubbles in the radiator ,no bubbles no problems,Bubbles blown head gasket between cyclinders. Will affect running at idle and use little amounts of water.water in oil will only do that ,water in oil and milky not good.
What can be wrong with my car?
there could be water in the oil, if there is white smoke something is going wrong or is bout to go wrong with your head gasket. also is there any leakage going on, my grand am is leaking antifreeze/coolant which is mking my engine overheat which is causing white smoke. go get it checked out before major damage occurswhite smoke is due to insufficient fuel burning. this may due to poor spark plug, clogged air filter and if your engine is carburetor type, adjust air flow. If water mixed in the engine oil, you can see milky oil consistency.
My Speedometer is Malfunctioning?
look inside the oil cap,and pull the stick out.if theres water,it will be on them.but ill tell right now,if its blowing white smoke, you might as well get prepared to start tearing it down, because its a head gasket.More Questions & Answers ...
