what exactly do you mean, it starts but won't run? do you mean that the starter engages and turns the motor over but won't catch, or the starter engages, the motor turns over but the wheels won't turn?

You mean the car starts but wont move when you put it in gear? If that is the problem you have a clutch problem, probaly a broken clutch cable, or the clutch plate is totally shot and it wont go into gear.

Well your either trying to say you can start but when you try to drive the car dies or are you trying to say when you start the car and hit the gas the car dont move. If its option 1 that could be anything from air/fuel ratio mixture not right to electical problems. Option 2, I would say your clutch came apart inside, or a problem in the tranny itself, or driveshaft problem.
