If car is over 100k miles, could this be a problem?
It is for the ignition. The reason is that when you crank the engine, the ignition switch bypasses all power to the rest of the vehicle. Therefore, in order for the engine to fire, the ignition system needs to be powered and this power is supplied from that third post. Once the engine is fired and the ignition returned from "crank" to "run", the power is restored through the normal routing. Next time you start your car, turn the ignition on and notice how the dash lights and stuff are on. Then when you crank, notice how they go off until the engine fires and you return to the "run" position.More Questions & Answers ...
