Why is my 2000 Dodge Neon leaking antifreeze?

Question:
I have a 2000 dodge neon. Last week we had the oil changed and all the fluids topped off before we were taking a long trip. Everything was fine. A few days after we came home, we were driving to the store and before we got there noticed that the temp guage was at hot and you could here the bubbling under the hood. Since the oil was changed, I did notice a a slight burning smell whenever I'd drive it but figured that maybe some oil had spilled on the engine and it was just burning off. When the car was overheating, we noticed there was no antifreeze left and it had all spilled out onto the ground. We got the car home and the next morning when it was light out, refilled the resevoir and radiator to see where the fluid was leaking out from and there were no leaks. We replaced the thermostat but for some reason so we're not sure if that took care of the overheating problem yet because it hasn't done it since but it's still leaking anitfreeze, any ideas why? What's our next step?

help me with my dash lights please?

I would go and have it pressure checked. It could be a hose connection, water pump, heater core etc... I would go to someone like Autozone and see if they will check it for you.

map sensor??

Now all sealed system must be purged of air, you most likely have an air lock.It will run cool for awhile then quikly get hot then drop again, when shut off will bubble and burp.purging is fairly simple, its in vehicles repair manual.

I have a 95 Honda Civic and everytime i drive in hot weather with the AC on the Temp rises high? normal?

The antifreeze bottle may be cracked or broken and you should probaly replace it with a new one but check it out first

Car vandalized, should I take it to the dealer for repairs?

My ex wife had a similar problem with her neon. Most radiators have whats called a petcock valve at the bottom of the radiator in order to drain coolant for servicing.
Hers had loosened up somehow and was leaking from there. If this is the case with your it's an easy fix, just tighten the petcock with a wrench.
If this isn't the cause you may also want to check your oil and see if the level has raised drastically and has gone creamy. If this is the case you may have a blown head gasket.
Heres hoping to a loose petcock.

clean out fuel injectors with higher octane fuel?

I had a neon you might have to change your seals they are rubber and wear out easy I had mine changed to metal and never had problems again. The problems started with weather change for me. Good Luck I sure miss mine it was a great car!

My Saturn isn't starting.?

sounds like you have a hair line crack somewhere and need to get it repaired and check your cooling fan too maybe the fan motor went out and over heated the radiator

1999 Honda Civic, has original spark plugs in it, good or bad and should I have them replaced, and why?

It sounds to me like your water pump is not working (or it is working intermittently) and it is leaking. The seal on the pump is probably leaking. The seals will wear out over time. It could be pulling air in from the leaky seal and air locking the pump every so often. The pump circulates water in jackets around the cylinders helping to keep the engine cool. If the pump is not working, the care will overheat. Water pumps are fairly cheap, but can be expensive to have installed. If you are able do the work yourself, if not haul it on in to good qualified mechanic. Good luck...........

When i start my car int he morning and it is frosted over, should I give it gas to thaw quicker?

I cant remember what years but the 2.0L and 2.4L engines had **** head gaskets in them for a while, that would be a good place to start looking. Dodge did fix the problem, and there is a service bulletin on it, but like I said I dont remember what years it covers.

How do I tell a Ford 351 from a 400?

OK here's what you need to do run the car at a normal speed and drive around a bit to see if it starts to overheat again and if so stop and open the hood and check the hoses starting with the hose coming out of the water pump (bottom hose) to the radiator and the top hose from the radiator to the thermostat to do this place your hand near not on where the hoses at each end is clamped to see if you can feel any liquid spraying out it could be a pin size hole in one of the hoses, but be care full the liquid is going to be extremely hot.

1991 Toyota truck started to act as if running out of fuel. Added fuel thought maybe foul plugs. Added plugs.?

The next thing you can do is shut off the motor and wait for the radiator to cool down and run your hand along the seam of the radiator to see if you can feel any liquid.

Were is a good place to donate my car?

I'm going to ask you this when you drive is there a squealing noise when you step on the gas and if so it could mean that your water pump is going then again i could be wrong but take your car to the garage and have a mechanic check it out.

What is the difference between radial tyres and ordinary tyres?

Maybe your Thermostat sticking. And the antifreeze is coming out you over flow.

are you better off paying to fix auto body damage prior to trading in a car or taking less from the buyer?

with your 7 year old car and it being a neon, i would take it and hav someone check to see if you're head gasket is leaking. have a test done to see if any carbon monoxide is getting into the cooling system. if it is, need a head gasket. if the head gasket is blown, coolant will be drawn into the cylinder(s) and burned and exhaust gas will be pushed into the cooling system. with the proper testing, the exhaust gas can be detected and the problem pinpointed.
