Question:
the crack is on the side of the radiator about 150 mm from the top of the radiator.
Answers:
If the crack is small, you might be able to find an additive...at an Automomile parts store that will help to re-seal it! Too large a crack, and you'll likely need to replace the Radiator in its entirety! Seems pretty straight forward to me. But there may be a Automotive shop around that can rebraze the crack in the rad, depending on its' material make-up.(ie)Aluminum,Steel etc. Theerrander.
as a temporary fix only, use a good 2 part epoxy like jb weld, then i would recommend professional repair or replacement.
1990 f150 auto transmiission woes please help.?
If the radiator is made of bronze (yellow metal) it may be possible to braze the crack up, this requires a welding torch and experience. It has been quite a while since a lot of radiators were bronze though. It's just possible that a really good welder could repair an alloy rad, depending on the exact spot the crack sits. You will probably need a new radiator. Are the special things that you have to do if you haven't started an engine for a long time?
There are commercial products that claim to stop leaks in radiators and water pumps, and I've used some of them successfully on small leaks. But there are downsides too:
Whats the difference between a 1989 ford ranger and a 1990 ford ranger ENGINE?
1) they do not work on "large" leaks.
2) they sometimes plug up radiator tubing, which compounds your problem.
3) you have to have access to the radiator itself, not to the filler reservoir. One of my cars does not have access to the radiator, so stop leak products did not work on that car.
The best way to repair a leaking radiator is to let a specialty shop fix it properly with solder. They also will clean out all the tubing and remove rust and mineral deposits.

1998 Cavalier 2.2L Cooling Fan - Won't turn ON.?
If it's brass or copper you can clean the area untill it is shiny, then solder it with acid core solder. If it's aluminum, clean the area and use J.B Weld. If plastic use Panel Bond. If it is copper or brass use a small propain torch., It take more heat that a soldering Iron can produce.I have been driving with no antifreeze. What are the consequences?
don't be cheep go buy a nother one, now !it will cost less than an engine if it over heats. when replacing a radiator its best to replace the thermostat and all hoses due to them swelling up if over heated in the past makes them loose durabilityMore Questions & Answers ...
