I just bought my car in Feb. 07 and the Check Engine light just came on today. It hasn't been making any kind of noise and I just checked the oil and it's fine... Any ideas why it would be coming on? it's a 05 Ford Taurus

Take the car to an Auto Zone Parts Store.They will check it for free.Then you can decide how to correct the problem from there as to what can be done.The light is on because it is detecting a problem with one or more sensors.It has nothing to do with your oil.But you were smart to check the oil anyway.Sometimes it just may be a loose or corroded connection in the harness connectors.Major oil leak issue help after oil change from dearler?
if its steady, it may be a minor problem. if it starts to blink, you need to get it serviced right away. i know someone who's engine light came on because the gas cap wasn't tightened and fumes were escaping so it could be just about anything. i believe you can get a free code scan from an autozone auto parts store.I have VW passat.The local garage has changed its right side o/s lower straight suspension arm.?
your best bet is to go back to the person you purchased from, the car should be in reasonably good condition when they sold it to you.

How many miles are on it? In the computers on most newer cars they make it so the "Check engine" light comes on when scheduled maintenace is needed. If so it will usually come on ever 10,000 miles or so, depending on the setup of the computer.My car specifically indicates Mobile One synthetic oil. Can I substitute?

i use to work for MARTA...emission testing place in TN...when that light comes on, it usually means there is something wrong with one of your emission sensors...like an O2 sensor...something of that nature...u should be able to go to AutoZone...ask them if they have an OBDII tester...its a small computer that plugs into the connector under the dash...it'll tell u what u need to get replaced
