Tightning lug nuts with our hands ***please read***?

Question:
i plan on putting my 4 wheels on my car by myself, i know my body doesnt have the power of a machine. will my wheels come off if i tighten the lugs tight with my hands and a lug wrench instead of using a power machine? im scared i might tighten it to hard with my hands and a lug wrench and strip the groves, is that possible or do i need to tighten it as tight as i can untill i can turn no further?

Use the "STAR" method, tighten by hand all lugs, then pick one lug, just snug it up with the wrench (don't kill it), go to the lug directly across from it, snug it up (don't kill it) , continue across from each lug with the wrench until all Lugs are tight, this "seats" the tire on the Axel correctly with no wobble.

2000 chevy malibu ls remote..any suggestions?

If you use a lug wrench it will be fine. You only use a power tool to remove parts, not tighten. Just torque the bolts down good by hand and you will be fine.

Wheels should be torqued to spec.... it's possible to over tighten as well as under tighten. Put them on tight but not to the point that they are over stressed. Some tire shops will re-torque wheels for free as this is a safety concern.

yeah you can use a lug wernch just tighten them tight so its not easy to turn more if you have to use all your weight you are done. but remember go in a star patern so you get the tire on there ballenced.

I have a 98 sebring and I am losing oil fast?

Unless you are some huge monster you just need to use a star wrench or lug wrench and tighten them as tight as you can. If you are an exceptionally strong person use a bit of self control.

Ideal solution is a torque wrench. You need to tighten them in a pattern- this is critical. You can google "lug nut tightening pattern" for details.

Is this a Transmission or Clutch problem?

As tight as you can with the lug wrench. Do it in a criss cross shape so the lugs go about the same depth on each "screw"
do the one at the top than one on the bottom and one on the left and one the right ( and the last one if it is a 5 lug wheel) than go back and do them all again. I perfer once the car is on the ground to take the lug wrench and stand on it on more time to get that yes they are really tight satisfaction in my mind. You are not going to strip them if you are an normal person and not superman
even if machine done check again in a couple days. just to make sure after the cooling and warming of the tires

how do i change the spark plugs in a 2000 kia sephia?

with the car up , put the tire on with the lug nuts snug with the wrench , then let the car down till the tire hits the ground , but not the full weight of the car , with the wrench tighten the lug nuts with about half a mans strength , let the car all the way down then tighten every other nut till you hit each nut , give it a good pull this time, never over tighten !

what car can you think of has the cheapest and easy to find parts?

Justanoth gives the best answer as he in struts you to install all the nuts BY HAND in an alternating pattern before you use the 4 bar cross wrench to tighten again in an alternating pattern. When the tire/wheel is back on the ground. re tighten again. This holds the wheel from rotating when you're doing the final tighten.
Recheck all tires including the spare for correct tire pressure.
