what exactly is man made leather?
replace the pulley?you may need to check that you put the belt on in the correct way. check to see if the fan is turning the right way. if the fan is blowing air into the engine then you have the belt put on right. when the belt is on you should not have lots of slack on it and can cause the idle pully to make noises
My 1992 crown victoria's original idler pulley has been making a noise for the last 80,000 miles. So I bought a new pulley and put it in the glove compartment and haven't done anything about the problem since!

what is the biggest motor i can put in a 86 cutlass?
Sometimes, you can actually have the belt too tight which can cause noise and premature wear on the pulley bearings. Check with a mechanic that you can trust. They can check the belt tension with a tensioner tool to make sure it isn't too tight.I have also used a bar of hard-milled soap (like Lava) and while the engine is running, carefully let the belt surface that contacts the pulley run over the bar of soap. This applies a thin layer that can act as a lubricant and quiet some noises...
id just turn up the radio.... sometimes you can replace it many times and not fix it....take it apart and put it back together.check tightness and other accessory's.
