why not answer the question with a bit of logic rather than relying on external sources. a standard nail has a smooth surface and so offers far less resistance when pulled out of something than a screw, which by nature must be screwed in due to the fact that it cannot simply be pulled out without a lot more effort and damage to the thing its being held in.

however, because nails can be knocked in in a straight line without need for rotations, they can be knocked in with far mroe force with a screw and thus can penetrate materials a screw may find difficult. also, the different profiles of screws and nails make them suitable for different materials, some which might break upon having a nail hit into them for example, but not when a screw is driven in.

what is the best way to tell which axle needs replaced on a front wheel drive car?

A screw always will hold better than a nail, however you might want to include some information on new technology like the hurriquake nail which was in the news a couple weeks ago. Also if you are doing this for a science fair project it might be good to include information on why this is important. For example, using a screw instead of a nail takes longer but helps the house stand up to hurricanes and other natural disasters.
