Question:
I have a 97 jeep xj (cherokee) I6 4.0L. I've been having a problem starting it sometimes recently. I turn the key and it cranks, starts normal, and in a couple seconds the rpm's drop and the engine stalls. I can get the rpm's up if I hit the gas immediately, and if i i hold them up above 2000 for a while i can get the idle back to normal and drive away. Point is, i don't like this and i'm trying to figure out the problem. It's not the IAC, the battery's fine, nothing is sucking power from the battery, i'm stuck. I have a long trip in a month and id like to at least know what im dealing with. Any suggestions??

if you can locate MAF sensor, after you start the motor, tap on it gently. if the motor smooths out the sensor is bad. the MAF sensor detects air flow by moving small filaments around. by tapping on it it thinks that there is air flowing. while driving the natural vibrations of the vehicle keeps the sensor working.More Questions & Answers ...
