It is a simpler design, while holding much of the economy and performance of a DOHC. Some of Honda's best engines are SOHC. Although you will probably always hear that DOHC > SOHC > pushrod, there are always exceptions. Pushrod engines require the least maintenance because there is no timing belt or chain. SOHC engines are just about as efficient and powerful as a DOHC, yet much simpler. DOHC engines are the most efficient, and are smoother, usually, but more complex. Hope this helps!yes sohc engines generally produce more low end torqe. thats why ford went with the three valve. dohc are 4 valve engines generally, with the 3 valve we got te low end torqe and the power of a 4 valve. compare the 2005 mustang gt with the 2004 mach1 and you will see.
For Those Of You Who THINK Mechanics Charge Too Much Money For Their Services?
only one i can think of is gas mileage and less things to burn up my gm quad 4 had two cams and those engines had trouble with cam bearings but the quad with one cam never had that problem.Where is the battery located on a mercedes a140 car?
First, it has less problems with timing belts and the valve timing. As for overall efficiency, about the same. For overall power, less. If you want to have a trouble free engine, go SOHC. If you want to remake "Fast and the Furious" DOHC.SOHC = Less friction and less to break. The DOHC will provide more airflow due to the higher surface area of the added valves.
