How can i jack up my rav4's engine to run faster?

well people tell me to install a bigger air filter, a better muffler, but i want other alternatives (preferably cheap) to make my car run faster. Do i also change the cylinders? spark plugs? valves? anything on the engine? things like that..... but please, no nitros and turbos as answers :D
