Typically the valves in the head will stay in the open position and at best bend against the top of the pistons or at worst punch a hole through the pistons.Question about what I should do on my car repair?
Valves get introduced to the pistons. Destroys valves, pistons, pieces get rattled around in the combustion chamber. Destroys the cylinder walls... You pretty much need a new engine in the worst case senario.Fender repair on 2000 Silverado?
Ooops nasty. All your valves, guides, and cyl head internals, plus piston tops will be trash. Short answer...new engine, but you may be able to salvage the block. Next time change cambelt at recommended intervals, about 30,000 miles...My rear a/c only blows hot air. even when its turned all the way to cold. what should i check?
"DAMAGE" your talking, "LOADS" of MONEY"My rim is 20x8.5, will a 245/35/20 size tire fit?
somewhere between moderate and drastic damage. The belt snaps so the valves and pistons etc aren't timed together in perfect sync as they should be, the pistons hit some valves they rattle/break bent, damaging the chamber petrols still being injected in to the cylinder so possibly some burning and excessive heat as it cant circulate as the valves are stuck, leaving hot spots in the damaged areas.
In a lucky very lucky scenario, you need new valves and suffer a slightly reduced performance due to the chamber damage.
Normally you'll pure and simply need a new engine, the damage can be so severe the cost of parts and labour to repair would equal if not exceed the cost of replacement.
How Do You Bypass an Alarm without your Keyless entry system?
HiECOTEC engines are not very resilient to anything, and as such, there is probably a lot of damage to the engine.
My Volvo C70 Transmission is starting to slip?
Its not a very difficult job on the scale of things the replace a cambelt on an ECOTEC and as such I would advise that you do just that and then carry out a cylinder compression test to see if the compressions are restored before you start stripping engines.
The cheapest option is to find a good second hand engine and fit that rather than carrying out any repairs should the compression test show up any problems.

What would cause my 87 toyotato shut down, and get it overheating?
Geordie
I had the same problem with my wife's car,
replaced the belt first, tested the cylinders and found damage there,
was lucky just bent the valves, replaced the head, by doing the job myself it cost $1100,
could have fit a recon motor for $1200, and saved a lot of time.
2003 dodge truck abs pump runs constantly, module bad or pump assy?
is it single cam or double? try moving the cams yourself, take off the belt cover and youll find markings these are Top Dead Center, you can ask a mechanic to check this out, if its bad probably better just to sell the cardon't fit a new belt and try to start you'll cause more damage. typicaly they bend between 6 and 16 valves when the belt goes (especially if you attempt to start after failure) this also cracks the cast iron guides (not normally visable untill cleaned a modeling knife is used as it locates the cracks) bits drop into eng later wrecking it again if not changed. typicaly cost £300 exc gaskets labour
The cambelt on my Metro went snapped while it was stationary and it completely ruined the valves and made a nice big dent in the head from where the snapped valve got smashed up against it, it needed a complete new top end and never ran as it did, at 60mph i'd say that it's pretty much totalled your valves, more than likely the pistons and possibly the head.
1998 ford taurus driver door wont open?
The top end is likely buggered. The ecotec is an interference engine which means at that speed its likely caused major damage. The cheapest and easiest way to repair is to get either a new engine or a new head and put it on.More Questions & Answers ...
