Question:
Could anyone tell me how to remove a door from a 1997 (Phase II) Peugeot 106 (3 dr)? If you could tell me what tools I'll need as well as how to do it that would be ideal. Cheers.
Answers:
Bit messy but quite quick. Firstly open the door and cover all of bits of interior, exterior glass and bonnet, pretty much everything.
Spark up the gas axe, [cutting torch], have a play first on scrap, read about what a flashback is and how to avoid/fix. what to do if all else fails. safety announcement.
Have a fire watcher for hoses and car in general.
Cut top hinge on door first, allow it to drop, butonly a little, it only should drop about an inch, put something under it, otherwise you risk bending the hinge on the chassis.
repeat above procedure for bottom hinge.
Now the door should be disconnected. If not look for any electrical cables such as speakers, central locking, fancy electric wing mirrors and such which may still be attached, now would be as good a time as any to remove these, the grinder should be an efficient way of dealing with these, you might want to check if you need these for the new door mind you.
Now all you should have is two hinges on the chassis, There should be a single pin going through the hinge. you should have one or two little flappy bits, cut through these with the grinder, allowing the pin to be pulled either up, or down depending on where you cut it. Obviously if you need the pins you had best buy some new ones.
alternatively you could look at the hinges and get a pin punch and knock pins out[support door though], obviously this is nowhere near as much fun and also does not have the exciting risk factor of setting fire to your pride and joy and anything else near by which does not appreciate being showered with red hot metal.
