have a 1996 ford windstar mini van i had been driving the van then the transmission does not shift right it acts like it does not want to shift it shifts from 1 to 2 but not from 2 to drive or drive to over drive i would be greatful if some one could help me its the only car i have thank you joe

Check your fluid level, low fluid means low pressure means your solenoids can't shift the transmission. If the fluid level is right you're probably in need of some new shift solenoids. Typically a vehicle of that age should have a check engine light kicked on by a shifting problem though that could be checked to be sure.There isn't much you can do for a transmission in your driveway.. I would suggest a Transmission oil and filter change. If I were you I would get it done at a transmission shop... Not Walmart or a place like that. Todays auto transmissions are super sensitive to the correct type of oil and won't work right without it.
The direct clutch pack could be bad, the 2-3 shift valve could be damaged or stuck, the 2-3 servo could be damaged...Take it to a tranny shop. Not an easy or inexpensive fix. God luck.

dont waste time and money on filters and oil now your trans is going out it needs to be rebuilt.or replaced?if you do it before it wrecks everything it should save u alittle money.Is it possible to take gas out of your car?
I owned 1996 ford windstar about 3 years ago andthe transmission would not shift at all untill I had to check if there were any fluid in it and the fluid was in okay place but then i found out that i had to rebulid the transmission because it would not shift and that it got stuck every time and i pulled the lever to hard that it beat up the clutch so every time your down hill do not pull the lever to hard tell someone to push the car from up front so the car can move and and you can pull the lever1995 Buick Century...is it worth it??
and also you might have to rebulid the transmission if the car skips or jumps from 1st gear to 2nd gear and also if you smell burning from your car immeditely stop and check if its the transmission or else the transmission would go an wont be able to move again
