I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima with almost 93,000 miles. When I first start the car, there is a small squeak lasting only a second or two. If I turn the heat on, it makes a very loud sound (not a squeak, more like a rattling sound) but if I turn the heat off, it makes no noise; the car sounds normal. I had the serpentine belt replaced in September or October of 2005. No other work (other than oil changes) has been done since then. Like I said before, it only makes the loud rattling sound when the heat is on. Please help. Will my car break down on me?

I agree with Mr Know, but there could be other reasons. Squeak could be coming from one of the belts. As for the noise, you didn't say where you can hear it. Is it coming from the front of the engine? Is it closer to the air vents inside the car? If it sounds as if it is closer to the inside, it could be the small fan, the one that blows air inside the car.A/C compressor bearings are worn out.
