Question:
would the temperature sensor cause the engine to idle a little rough along with hard to start when the car is warm? when the car is cold it starts fine. never stalls. this car is driving me crazy! car dealership said it is the crankshaft & camshaft sensors not getting spark. changed the crankshaft. not the problem. everything possible with the fuel has been checked. spark plugs & wires too. its not the security passlock either. no lights are on. its a 2003 v6 with only 40,000 miles.

knowing the make and model would help...that said.. yes the temp sensor could cause issues with he car running to rich or lean... but in cars with only electric fans it also controls when they turn on. what type of mech is this playing guessing games?? if the car is newer and a sensor is out it will give a check engine light.. most sensors also can be checked by qualified mechanics.step by step.

check ...
EGR is not stuck open.
not a vaccum leaks. at intake manifold ("hook up" vaccum meter,20 inches is OK)
be sure, the temperature sensor is good ( do not replace it ,test it) located in top of the intake manifold(that, some times, it give no codes)
simple testing ?unplug it

no temp sensor wont govern any of that. it more like a timing or ignition module or sensor. as long as the car is not over heating you can rule out that temp sensor.Yes, the CTS will do this. If not working or detecting a lower coolant temp. the engine will run rich. OK for cold starts but a problem for warm starts. Crank and cam sensors do not create or receive spark, only provide information to when the spark should occur. With a scan tool that can read data, the coolant temp can be compared to intake air temp on a cold (not running) engine to see if there the same.
