Question:
ok here is the deal, I have a 98 Chevy Cavalier. a few days ago the check engine light came on. I noticed a slight lack of power and a ticking in my engine. I pulled the spark plug wire off of cylinder #1 and got zero response. So I thought I had a bad cylinder. I checked the compression and it is beautiful in all 4 cylinders. So I changed out the plugs and the wires. this did nothing to solve the issue. When I pull off plug #1, I have a decidely lovely spark. Could it still be the ignition coil pack? Any other ideas on what it could be? I would think that if I have a spark coming from the wire that the coil pack would be doing it's job but is it possible that it isn't?

If the coil pack was bad it would affect 2 of the cylinders. One possibility that comes to mind is you may have an injector stuck or not working. This could also be a computer problem. How do i replace the rubber seal on a car sunroof--no silly answers please?
okay, you pulled off wire #1 and got spark good. but try this. start the car and let it idle, next if you have plug wire pliers pull off the wires one at a time. when you pull them off one at a time and your car runs worse then that coil pack is fine, when you get to one that when you puul it off it doesn't change how the engine runs BINGO you got your bad coil. good luck and be sure not to get zapped. remember that you have 2 coil packs on that car. 4 cyl. = 2 cyl. per coil.It is possible part of the pack has a crack see if it's worse if its damp Check with an omen meter and com pair to the others
Is it my pumpor Oil Pressure Switch?
It might be your catalytic convertor. A tick in the engine isn't really that uncommon. It does that when it's hot.More Questions & Answers ...
