How to make moulds for flares of a car ''fibreglass''?

I need to know how to make a plug/mould for my rare flares of my car? Do i make this mould/plug on the top side of existing flare/s? by wax/gell coating top of existing flare,then build up glass layers,once hardened release ,polish,then same procedure in mould to make my copy flare? thanks very much for any help!!

The easiest way would be to make the basic design out of cardboard. Once you get the curves, etc that you desire, you can put a sheet of plastic wrap or plastic sheeting over it, then put a small coat of jel coat and wait for it to dry. Once dry, remove the cardboard and check the fit. Then apply the additional fiberglass/jel coating to get the desired thickness and rigidity.

making molds of fiberglass is not an easy job. haveing done this before at boat factories i can tell you that it takes time and patients along with knowing some tool and die making tricks. your going to have to make your pattern mold first then your going to need a real good real hard epoxy to make your primary mold for use. when i made my fender models for my monza i started with a base mold off the inside of the fender and worked it from there. that way i had the area needed for it to be the same height. I can tell you now that its not an easy job just to make a mold. but if you can make one then you will always have it when ever you break the part that you made. good luck to you.
