my son put an a /c compressor on my 97 geo tracker and it works went we put a wire from battery and went we take it off no cold air i think it;s a relay but where is it at ?

that is a good start.it can be checked with a basic volt/ohm meter.first remove it and apply power to the coil.then check continuity across the relay contacts on the ohm setting.you should have 0 ohms with the relay energized.odds are the old compressor was ok.also the sealed system should have been taken into a vacuum and held for 30 minutes before charged with freon.if not it will be contaminated with moisture and will cause further problems.i hope this helps
