Loud noise on 97 Chevy Cavalier?

If you have a hard pedal, then more than likely you have a bad brake booster, but to answer your question, remove the ABS relay, but this will make the abs light come on..and this will also not allow the ABS modulator motor to work..Question for you...Do you have a buzzing sound when vehicle is running, that you think is the ABS motor? But more than likely its the brake booster...which is behind the master cylinder...mounted right up agaist firewall..disconnect the vacuum line going to it, and then check pedal...email me back with outcome.....gotspeed7883@yahoo...

What should i do if my car breaks down and i don't want to call my dad?

No, you can't bypass safety equipment. Have it fixed.

Approximately how long can this engine last?

The ABS motor will not cause a hard pedal. Most likely a bad brake booster or vacuum problem.
