Can these engines be swapped?

Question:
Could a Peugeot 306 1905cc turbo diesel engine be used to replace the 1769cc turbo diesel engine in my Peugeot 205? If it is possible, how difficult a job is it to do?

Answers:

Engine running high?

Dimensionally it should fit.

What would be the most appropriate adhesive/glue to use to glue the something to the body of my car? both meta

However, the 1905cc turbo diesel had an iron block, whereas the 1769cc units (and the 1905cc non-turbo) had aluminium alloy blocks.
Therefore the mass (weight) of the 1905cc turbo engine may be a problem. You may need to use different engine mounts and reinforce the engine-mounting points on the body structure. You will definitely have to find suitable replacement springs and dampers to cope with the extra mass.
