Do it soon as something might have been broken loose and it might be dangerous.

The damage done could be as little as a skid plate(about 30 bucks to replace) or it could be a major steering component. What makes a car shut down while driving?
You need to have it looked at immediately, if something in the steering breaks you could lose control of your car and be seriously injured...
As for cost you can replace most of one side of the suspension on one side of a car for $1000-$1500 so at least find out what it is.
I have a question related to my car making a noise when I start it in the mornings.?
Your undercarriage will need to be examined. Potentially, there could be damage to your exhaust system and wheel axle apparatus. It is also possible that a piece of the log has attached itself to your car. Without knowing what the cause of the noise is, it is difficult to determine how much you will need to spend. With any luck, you may just need to replace some bolts.could be a skid plate... or if you hit it just right knocked the hell out your Axel or bearings..... regardless good luck dealing with the mechanics!!
