Question:
The battery was not recharging so I had it replaced. Now it starts but the engine is running at an unusually high idle. Could this be related to the ampage of the battery or is this an alternator issue? What are the symptoms to look for if the system is drawing too much?
Answers:
well can someone suggest what needs to be fixed checked for car starts but wont turn over?
I can't imagine a charging/amperage problem causing an engine to run at a fast idle. I believe you may have pulled a vacuum hose or wire to some sensor loose while you were changing the battery. A 12 volt battery usually charges up to around 13.2 volts depending on ambient temperature. An alternator puts out about 13.8 volts normally. How can I stop leaking the water pump?
I dont believe its related t the battery amerage as I use the biggest battery I can buy in all my cars with no ill effects. Just to cover your bases Id have the alternator load tested by a reputable shop.If the alternator isnt charging properly, the lights will be dim and will start hard etc.More Questions & Answers ...
