Question:
1993 Camaro Z28:
K&N Cold air intake
Edelbrock Headers
catalytic converter removed to straight pipe
My Camaro had a fire on underneath it from the catalytic converter and I had to change a lot of stuff out (Sifter cable, speed sensor and wires for it, and I removed the Catalytic Converter completely for a straight pipe.) At the same time I had problems with the Distributor but eneded up changing the distributor, ignition module, and ignition coil, spark plugs, plug wires. The car now starts up and while in idel it will sometimes miss, but when I drive down the road I will have bad detonation (pinging). What could be the cause of this?
I cant adjust the timing because its an optispark distributor. I was told the distributor could be bad. But I was also curious if the cap could cause this problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have a two stroke remote control car, but it came in pieces, how do I put it together?
Yes the cap could cause this issue. A bad distributor can as well. Your vacuum advance may be bad as well, your miss at idle is more likely from a vacuum hose that burned up in the fire. This vacuum hose may also be the one that connects to the vacuum advance. I would check this area and see if that is the cause. Other wise you will want to take it to a shop and have it looked at.Could be the pick-up sensor in the distributor or it could be caused by no back pressure from the exhaust. Possibly due to lack of a cross-over pipe.I'd still go with the distributor area though.
Sealing auto glass-- vent window?
The timing is advanced too far.Loosen the retaining bolt for the distributor and turn it counter clockwise a few degrees and try it again. If it's been lugging over to start also ,this is a cure.Is the computer control still in place?Hopefully it is,in which case the timing is set by disconnecting the brown wire from the distributor and using a timing light on the balancer, then reconnecting the wire.It is supposed to have a knock sensor screwed into the side of the block. If it hears detonation, the computer retards the timing in an effort to control it.But if the distributor isn't bolted into the right range it can't help.It wouldn't hurt to double check the wire placement on the cap to be sure it is the correct 18436572 order.More Questions & Answers ...
