Can I use truck tires/SUV tires on my Chevelle?

Question:
I want to run 18x8 in front and 18x10 in the back of my '70 Chevelle. It will be lowered 1". Other than that, pretty much stock drivetrain. My problem is: I want to have some "meaty" tires, not super low profile tires. I would like 235 or 245/50 in the front and a 275, 285 or 295/50 in back. Unfortunately the searches I have done yield only super low profile tires. I keep ending up in the truck/SUV tire section if I find the sizes I want. My questions are: is there any problem with using truck/SUV tires on my Chevelle? Or are there any tire manufacturers that make wide tires with aspect ratios in the 50 or 55 range?

If you want to use 18-inch rims on a car designed originally for 14 or 15-inch then you have no alternative but to use low-profile tires, especially if the car is lowered. Those SUV tires your talking about won't even fit under the wheel wells unless you plan to do some serious cutting.
