i own a repair shop and i have on certain occasions heard some of them clicking like yours is doing,usually its not normal to hear them and it could indicate they need replaced,especially and you said it had a rough idle to it this is probably the cause,and yes the can and do wear out,on some cars more than others,good luck with it i hope this helps.that could be plugs and wires, or it could just be your lifters ticking..

Go down to Autozone at they will check the engine light for you. It could be numerous things, but your fuel injectors will only make a slight hissing noice.
