Paint job on car?

i plan to paint my whole car black and the original color now is green, so i am wondering if i am allow to do this since i own the car and would i have to include that on the registration card or does it matter?

It's perfectly legal to change your car's color, but you'll need to go to the DMV and update your registration.

Reason, a friend of mine had his car impounded, the meter maid thought the plates where off a similar car. The color on the registration was gray and he went to a Perl. Being an under paid city watchmen the idiot never bothered to check the VIN of the car and just had it towed. His excuse was the color was different then what was on the plate information.
