Yes unless you bypass it using a piece of hose...The heater core is a mini radiator hidden in the air box under your dash a fan blows air thru it an the heated ari is how you get heat in the interior compartment...
Should the Check engine light illuminate when you turn the key to the ON position ?
so when it leaks it leaks coolant out of the entire cooling system...
93 Geo Metro manual won't shift into 5th gear. Why?
warning if heater core is bad now the radiator is on its way out too... with in 1 year or so unless already replaced or repaired.
The AC system and the heating system are 2 separate systems except that the heater core and the AC Condensor share the air box area and both are controlled by the same heater/AC switch on the dash...
other than the control switch they operate independantly of each other and are separately sealed systems
I'm looking for a threaded linkage (M/F) that swivels. What is this called and where can I find it?

When I push on the gas my truck wont go over 50?
A bad heater core can affect the cooling of the ENGINE, but not the passenger compartment. If your A/C isn't working, the heater core is most likely not the culprit. The operative word here is Heater. The heater core is simply a small radiator that has hot antifreeze circluated thru it. It is in the heater box which allows for the heater fan to force air thru it for efficient heating of the air.
If your a/c is not working there are many other things that can cause the problem such as low refridgerant, activiating the low pressure switch which will not allow the a/c to operate and burn up the compressor. The compressor may be bad, the list goes on.
but I seriously doubt your heater core has much to to with it.
I have a 93 ply sundance with a 3.0 brand new cat gets cherry red and eng sputters why?
no it doesn't sound right, but close. the heater core is used to provided HEAT not a/c. the a/c system has two componants some what similar the evaporator and the condencer both pass the refridgerant through them as either a gas or a liquid. if you have a foul smell in your car, it is more possibly the evaporator than the condencer no foul smell, the leak could be any where else in the system. How much mileage doest it take for a car to break down/useless? Example Ford?
good luck and hope this info helps
