Question:
my alero is a 2003 v6 3.4L with 40,000 miles, when it is warm outside the engine cranks but takes about 20 minutes of trying before it starts. when its cold outside it starts right up. seems to idle rough when stopped. i had the fuel filter changed, and pressure checked, air filter is new, i've had it in and out of the shop and no clue, theres no check engine light on so no code, also the security light is not on. alot of people say its the passlock system, but everybody that has had that problem said their security light was on. any ideas?
Answers:
If there are no codes, GM does have problems with the ignition switches, but generally if it is the ignition switch you would also notice that when it does not want to start, the cluster lights are all inop.
Stripped distributor cap hold down screws?
It has too rich mixture - likely one of the sensors - possibly MAP or MAF - are inaccurate. When engine is cold, it needs more gas to start and run until it warms up. If a faulty component makes mixture too rich, it feels fine when cold but when hot, it floods. It needs to be scanned with a decent scanner that provides real-time sensor values. It's not something autozone is qualified to do.

i own a repair shop ,and its the temperature sensor that's bad on it,it tells the computer if the engine is cold or hot,and yours is not doing either, unless its cold, that how these sensors do when they go out, they make them real hard to start when its warm out side, have it changed and it will be ok,i have done a lot of these my uncle also owns one of them, and for some reason those sensors do go bad on these car more often than other ones do,good luck hope this helps.More Questions & Answers ...
