Question:
have a 1991 toyota 4-runner with a flat tire. Problem is the rim wont pop off the hub. I've tried tapping around the outside of the rim near the lug nut holes with a ball peen hammer ( away from the tire rim edge) but that has no effect. If someone's come across this before, what was your solution? I'm out of ideas.

BY THE WAY IF THE TIRE IS FLAT AIR IT UP (IF IT WILL HOLD AIR) A FLAT TIRE WILL MAKE THINGS MORE DIFFICULT.
I have a 3.0 1998 vauxhall omega, when I put it in gear (Auto box) it is as if their is no power?
Take your hammer and whack the center of the hub. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works. What does the "Stingray" in Corvette Stingray stand for?
A dead blow hammer is your friend... or a mini sledge, but the deadblow would be better, as it's coated and won't accidentally scar your rim. Then just hit it until it pops off... you may also want to try some WD-40 and spray it around the lugs and in there as best you can and let it sit for a while to help loosen the rim from the hub...How important are motor mounts?
i own a shop, and if you,ll take your foot and kick the right hand side of the tire and the the left side of it a few times it will come off,do it about half way up on the tire and rim, that will dis-lodge it,from the hub,i have ran across a lot of them like this before, those and Isuzu,s are bad for that, good luck i hope this helps.Get in the vehicle go forward it the brakes hard, role backwards hit the brakes hard, should brake it loose. Go slow not fast. Repeat a couple of time without lugs, should break loose.
I don't know why anyone would give Hambone a thumbs down for his advice. I taught my daughter to "mule kick" a wheel that won't come off. She's a small one, and has no trouble getting them off. It works, and it works well.
Everyone who says metal hammer should never touch a car again. You should only use a Dead blow mallet, A metal hammer or a rubber mallet will bounce back at you and possibly cause an injury. Doing a mule kick is good and it is also safe. If it falls off the jack at least your not under the car. a dead blow mallet or a mule kick is how we solve the problem. also once you get the rim and tire off the car you need to make sure you sand down both surfaces so they will be able to mate back up. you may even want to put a very thin layer of grease on the mating surfaces to help prevent this from happening again.
