I lost my key to my 2000 ford taurus. If the dealership was saying it'd be $110 to make a new one,?

Question:
What other options do I have? I've searched and tried to remember for 3 days. I will still check the apartment complex office to see if they were dropped and turned in first, and even go in a friend's car to the local police dept. and see if they've been turned in. I have retraced steps everywhere. Any suggestions?

I've read in 3 cases that the 2004 t-bird accelerates on it's own and in one case the brakes failed.?

A 2000 Ford Taurus uses what is called a "transponder key". That means that there is a radio transmitter built into the key. The new key has to be programmed to match the car. A good locksmith can cut and program the key, and you have to buy 2. Usually runs around $100.00. Good luck.

There might not be any. Depends on where you are. Since these keys are digitally encoded the only people who have the correct codes are the dealerships, making this a total pain in the butt and much more expensive.

Because it's more than just a key. You also get the security device that's built into the key. That's why it cost so much.

Does the intake manifold need to be removed to change the knock sensor?

I would call a lock smith about it first ,he will probably first use a plastic blank key to get the cars key profile then cut you a new key and do anything else that is needed. Anything involving the dealer usually costs about 60% higher.
