Also, I am trying to run a 12V power supply directly from the battery into my interior, but I can't seem to find any easy grommet through which to run it. Where is the easiest place to run a line?

drill that bad boy, through an already exhisting grommet if you have room on the rubber, then seal with RTV. if not use the firewall IF YOU HAVE TO and seal.
